Summary
Receptor binding domains or viruses can bind to the same target in different ways as a result of convergent evolution. In the example below, ACE2 is bound by the RBDs of HCov-NL63, SARS-CoV-1, and NeoCoV in different ways. This is almost certainly due to convergent evolution:
