Programmed death-1 (abbreviated as PD-1 and sometimes called CD279) is a receptor found on T cells and B cells that regulates immune responses. As an “immune checkpoint” it prevents autoimmune responses when it binds to PD-L1. This pathway is used by cancer cells, but can be blocked by immunotherapeutic antibodies.
