Programmed death ligand 1 (abbreviated PD-L1 and also called CD274), is a 40 kDa transmembrane protein that suppressed the adaptive immune system by binding to PD-1 receptors on T cells and preventing activation. This is a strategy used during pregnancy, but is also frequently used by tumor cells to avoid the immune system. It is a therapeutic target for antibodies (immunotherapy).
